Amazing Race 16

Last night was not an elimination round--hooray!

Louie and Michael came in first!

Cord and Jet came in fourth.

Jordan & Jeff came in last.

So glad I was not on this--a plate of sauerkraut (or soccer) and a boot of beer....

I imagine it was an odiferous evening.

Amazing Race 16

Amazing Race is on tonight. Never really thought I would be excited to be saying that. Update:

Brent & Caite -- they are somewhat growing on me. Felt really bad as they have had food poisoning/dehydration/visit an ER in a foreign country "roadblock."

Carol & Brandy -- I do not like these two. They just seem mean. I realize this is a contest and a race, but they don't even seem to get along with each other, and certainly have no regard for the other teams.

Dana & Adrain--They didn't really have a chance, as they were eliminated the first show.

Jet & Cord -- Still my favorite team. They are so good natured and good humored about the entire thing. I am glad they have won two rounds so far.

Jody & Shannon--I really liked this team. They were both extremely positive and upbeat. Unfortunately they were eliminated in episode 2.

Joe & Heidi -- I don't like him, and neither do most of the other teams. She just looks at him with admiration when he is talking, like he is a great speaker or something, it is kind of sickening.

Dan & Jordan -- These guys are cute, literally and personality wise. They do have issues with driving stick shifts that might be their downfall.

Jordan & Jeff -- I like this team a little more as well. They seem like nice people.

Louie & Michael -- Unfortunately, I think these guys are not going to be around much longer. They have the stamina, but the thinking game is what is going to beat them.

Monique & Shawne -- (They don't stand out. They are nice enough, but they keep falling into "the middle of the pack.") And were the third team eliminated.

Steve & Allie -- This is definitely a "sleeper team," one to watch out for. They are sneaking up towards the top.

My guess for the team eliminated tonight: Unfortunately, it is probably going to be Louie and Michael.

And I am going to "hope" that Cord and Jet win this leg as well.

We'll see....

Money saving ideas

Being somewhat "strapped for cash," I like to look at the "money saving ideas" that frequently come across my internet home page. The ideas provided are usually good ones, though for the most part they are common sense. Perhaps that is the reason that I am unable to use any of them, they are stuff that I do already or have no need for.

For example:

"Save money every morning by making your coffee at home"--with the nearest "coffee shop" 30 miles one way, this is not an issue.

"Brown bag your lunch"--this one I do cheat on a bit, there is a cafe that is closer, but still most of the time, not applicable.

"Don't go out to dinner every night"---see "making coffee at home"

and the latest include:

"Switch to dry pet food"--don't have a pet

"Take your old heels to a repair shop"--don't wear heels

"Host dinner parties," "borrow DVDs from friends," "unlock (digital music libraries)"--Most of the people that live next to me this time of year do not or would not participate, so these don't work either.

Maybe someday they will figure out not all of us live in a city...

Broke down

So, I have broken down, and am now watching "The Amazing Race." Honestly, the only reason that I started watching was due to the fact that Cord McCoy and brother Jet are one of the teams, which I found out by looking at the latest update for PBR (Professional Bull Riding), which Cord is.

I have quickly formed opinions of the teams, and definitely have my favorites.

Brent & Caite (or Miss Such As and Therefore)--they have their moments. Not one of my favorite teams, but they will likely go far, as long as he does the thinking. She keeps saying, this will show people that I really am intelligent....right....

Carol & Brandy--Normally, I would probably like the lesbian team, but not this lesbian team. They are pretty much both divas, and are not very nice.

Dana & Adrain--They didn't really have a chance, as they were eliminated the first show.

Jet & Cord--A favorite, obviously the highest ranked favorite. There is a lot I could say, but will just keep it simple.

Jody & Shannon--I really liked this team. They were both extremely positive and upbeat. Unfortunately they were eliminated in episode 2.

Joe & Heidi--Don't like this team. It is him. All him. She seems nice.

Dan & Jordan--Brothers...one gay, one not. They are growing on me.

Jordan & Jeff--Not really a favorite, very similar to Brent and Caite in a number of ways, but I like this team better. They will also likely go far, again, as long as he does the thinking.

Louie & Michael--One of my favorites, police detectives, partners on the force. Nice guys.

Monique & Shawne--They don't stand out. They are nice enough, but they keep falling into "the middle of the pack."

Steve & Allie--Another favorite, so far. Father and daughter team, which to me speaks loads.

Still not sure how this classifies as "reality," since essentially it is a game show.

The Olympics

The stories about the various "scandals" and trivialities revolving around the Olympics are just getting petty and pissy.

Fur costumes, bikini clad athletes, snowboarders being, well, boys---seriously is this news?

Not sure what the numbers are for viewers, but it seems like someone is trying to get more.

Halloween's over

We are now on the downhill slide into winter. I didn't pass out candy at my own home last night, but went over to a friend's instead. I had several observations:

1. Trick-or-treating is now a multi-generation event (or at least I had not seen it before). The youngest t-o-tr was about 2 months old, maybe...and the oldest was about 50 something. Of course the parents were taking the kids around, but some had grandparents trudging along as well (not in costume though).

2. Children are rude. The littlest ones didn't quite have the concept, but they knew the candy was supposed to go in the bucket--they would look at my hand, look at the bucket, look at my hand look at the bucket--that was kind of cute. Then you had the ones that would say "put the candy in the bag"--not cute. We had to coax a number of the older kids to say "Trick or Treat." Surprisingly, probably about 30-40% (maybe a little more)said "thank you"--I didn't think it would be that high.

3. If you are going to t-o-t, at least be in costume, if not stay home, cause you are just begging at that point. Saw this from adults and children.

4. The children who weighed the most(and didn't need all that extra sugar) were consistently the same ethnic background.

5. Why be just a witch or just a princess when you can be a monster witch or a zombie princess :D

6. The best costume of the night---a refridgerator...complete with cereal boxes on top, ice cream and ice cube tray in the upper portion and magnets and drawings on the door...really cool.

7. Drag is alive and well...as is the future of the GLBT community of the town.

8. A lot of dads and older brothers were taking the little ones around--nice to see.

9. T-o-ts move like zombies--a whole herd of them at a time, moving slowly towards the door, reaching out their arms, not really saying anything but their mouths are gaping open.

10. The little Snickers will be on sale :D and it is hard to find a decent women's costume on the day of Halloween at *******, but you are guaranteed to find some strangely dressed people there, more so than usual.
